Preparations for the 2026 Tent Pegging World Cup Qualifier in Oman are in full swing, with Pakistan''s national tent pegging team now three days into a focused training camp. On Day 3, the national riders continued their build-up with high intensity, discipline and commitment, working through mounted drills aimed at peak match readiness.

In the words shared by the camp management:

The road to the 2026 World Cup

The fifth ITPF Tent Pegging World Cup will be hosted by Jordan in 2026. To reach the finals, nations must first come through regional qualifying rounds, and the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF) named Oman and Russia as qualifier hosts. Pakistan has been drawn into Group C alongside Oman, Qatar, the United States, Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom, with the Oman leg serving as Pakistan''s route to the World Cup.

Tent pegging qualifiers and world events are contested across the full range of ITPF disciplines — lance and sword work against 6 cm and 4 cm pegs, plus rings and pendants — in individual, pairs and team categories, along with a team relay. Consistency across all of these formats is what separates the qualifying nations from the rest, which is why the current camp is drilling every discipline rather than a single specialty.

Pakistan''s tent pegging pedigree

Pakistan is one of the sport''s heavyweight nations. At the 2023 Tent Pegging World Cup in South Africa, Pakistan finished as runners-up, taking the silver-medal position behind champions Saudi Arabia, and Pakistani rider Irfan Mahmood Watto was recognised as one of the top individual tent peggers in the world. Pakistan was also among the 17 founding nations when the federation was first established in 2013.

More recently, the national team was crowned champions of the Pakistan International Tent Pegging Championship 2025, finishing ahead of Egypt and Saudi Arabia on home soil — form that the squad now carries into the Oman qualifier.

Inside the training camp

Day 3 followed the pattern of a structured pre-tournament camp: early mounted sessions, repeated target runs to groove timing between horse and rider, and conditioning work for the horses that will travel to Oman. The management reports that the riders began the day with strong morale and full discipline, and that the entire squad is focused on representing Pakistan at its best.
